PS5 Price Increase 2025: Your Last Chance to Save
Sony has officially announced a $50 price hike on all PlayStation 5 “Slim” models in the United States starting August 21, 2025. This includes the PS5 Digital Edition, Standard PS5, and the upgraded PS5 Pro.
The updated retail prices will be:
- PS5 Digital Edition: $499.99
- Standard PS5 (with disc drive): $549.99
- PS5 Pro: $749.99
Currently, you still have a chance to purchase the consoles at their lower prices before the increase takes effect.

- PS5 Digital Edition: Around $449 at Amazon, Best Buy, Walmart, and Target.
- Standard PS5 (disc model): $499 at Best Buy, Walmart, and Target.
- PS5 Pro: Approximately $699 at Amazon, Best Buy, Walmart, and Target.
However, availability is already shrinking—Amazon has reported that the disc-based PS5 is sold out, with other retailers expected to follow soon.
What’s New in PS5 Models?
While all three PS5 consoles support the same game library, they differ in design and features:
- PS5 Digital Edition: No disc drive; only supports digital downloads. An optional external Blu-ray drive can be purchased later for $79.99.
- Standard PS5: Same hardware as the Digital Edition, but with a built-in disc drive.
- PS5 Pro: Features a faster GPU, better ray tracing, Wi-Fi 7 support, 2TB SSD storage, and AI-powered upscaling for sharper visuals. It is also compatible with Sony’s external Blu-ray drive.
The Pro model doesn’t include exclusive titles but enhances selected PS5 games with improved graphics and performance.
Why the Price Increase?
Sony’s decision follows Nintendo’s similar move last month, where the company increased the price of the original Nintendo Switch by $30 and adjusted accessory pricing. Both companies attribute the increases to international tariffs on electronics imports, which have been fluctuating since April under shifting U.S. trade policies.
Sony clarified that the price of PS5 accessories will remain unchanged, but the consoles themselves will see the $50 adjustment starting tomorrow.
